Calderys, a global leader in high-temperature solutions and refractory products, has announced the appointment of Sander Bovee as Chief Financial Officer.
Mr Bovee brings extensive financial expertise to the role, having held leadership positions across multiple global markets. He joins Calderys from Nouryon, formerly known as AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals, where he was instrumental in overseeing significant financial operations. Nouryon operates in over 80 countries with an annual turnover exceeding $5 billion.
During his tenure at Nouryon, Bovee played a pivotal role in the €10 billion sale of AkzoNobel Specialty Chemicals to a global investment firm in 2018, leading the financial carve-out and due diligence process. He also spearheaded the financial spin-out of Nobian from Nouryon in 2021. Most recently, Bovee served as Vice President of Group Control & Treasury and acted as interim CFO, where he led the $5 billion Amend & Extend transaction of Nouryon’s credit facilities between June 2023 and March 2024.
Calderys President and CEO Michel Cornelissen said, “We are delighted to welcome Sander to Calderys. His deep financial expertise and proven track record make him a key addition to our team. Following our carve-out last year and successful merger with HarbisonWalker International (HWI), Sander will play a crucial role in the next phase of our growth, helping to drive shareholder value. I am excited to work with him as we continue to build on Calderys’ success.”
Mr Bovee expressed his enthusiasm for the new role. He said: “I am honoured to have been selected as Calderys’ new CFO. The company is a leading supplier to key global industries such as steel, aluminium, glass, and more. Calderys has built a strong reputation for its world-class, customised solutions and long-term relationships with over 7,000 customers worldwide. I look forward to working with the talented team to further position Calderys as the partner of choice for high-temperature industries. I am particularly impressed by the group’s achievements over the past 18 months, including its transformative investment in a new facility in India. I am excited to contribute to Calderys’ continued growth.”
A Dutch national, Bovee holds a master’s degree in Economics and an executive master’s in Finance and Control from Maastricht University. He has also completed Executive Education programmes at both Harvard Business School and IMD Business School in Switzerland.
